How to play

CBB Blue Chips Brand Logo

Intro

Welcome

Thanks so much for visiting the site.CBB Blue Chips, originally founded in 2018, is a free to play fantasy sports game that revolves around the annual college basketball tournament in March.Built by just a couple of guys who got bored with the whole bracket thing. And decided something more interesting should exist.

The

Problem

Here's the deal. Traditional brackets are totally fine...But wait, are they really though? You're telling me that I get one chance to pick the winning team and if I get it wrong I'm effectively done for?That's...unfortunate.

(Our)

Solution

What if there was a better way?A way to change your mind.Like constantly. All tournament long.Picking and choosing teams as often as you please.Enter CBB Blue Chips Brand Logo.

Part One

Getting Started

Upon signing up, you'll be given 100,000 fantasy points.Throughout the tournament you'll use these points to buy and sell fantasy shares of teams.Literally as often as you'd like.(The only exception is when those teams are actively playing.)Your goal is to accurately invest in teams you believe will do well.Thereby increasing your total fantasy points.

Part Two

Investing

Trading in CBB Blue Chips is not like traditional trading.Rather than share value's being determined by supply and demand...The only time a team's share value will change is upon completion of a game. And how a team's share value changes is entirely dependent on their performance in that game.
Each team will have a starting share value i.e. 3,000.If that particular team out scores their opponent in a game, their share value will rise 3,540.And if they fail to do so, their share value will fall 2,840.But wait. It's not as simple as who won or lost. There's a little bit more to it...

Part Three

The Point Spread

Once again, point spreads in CBB Blue Chips are not like traditional point spreads. But first, what exactly is a point spread? The purpose of a point spread is to make the outcome of a game seem a little more even.
Scenario One
For example, let's say Team A is significantly better than Team B.You might expect to see a large point spread of say ±19.Since Team A is favored here, this would effectively reduce their score by 19 pts.
Scenario Two
In a different scenario, perhaps Team A and Team B are more evenly matched. In that case, you might expect a smaller point spread of say ±2.Which would only reduce Team A's score by 2 pts.

So what does this mean in the context of CBB Blue Chips? In CBB Blue Chips the point spread will be set only once for each game at the beginning of the day.If you recall from earlier, we discussed how team share values are entirely dependent on who outscores who.But it's not as simple as directly comparing each team's score for any given game.We must first take the point spread into consideration.
An Example Point Spread
Imagine a scenario where the point spread is set to ±6.5.
An Example Game Outcome
Team A (the favorite) scores 76 pts.Team B (the underdog) scores 72 pts.
How This Affects Share Values
In this scenario, Team A has won the game and therefore you might expect their share value to increase. But that would be incorrect, because we've yet to take the point spread into consideration. After subtracting 6.5 pts from Team A's score we can see that their adjusted score is only 69.5 pts. Therefore their share value will have gone down. And while Team B would still be out of the tournament, their share value will actually have increased.

Part Four

Determining Share Values

In CBB Blue Chips, the question is not:Did my team beat the point spread? But rather:How much did they beat (or fail to beat) the point spread by?Using the scenario from Part 3, let's take a look at a full breakdown:

A few important notes regarding share value changes:1. The first few points above or below the spread have a more significant impact than later points.2. Decreases in share value are only 1 / 2 as severe as increases. For a deeper dive into how share values change please check out our Calculator page!
